The Magic of clay

I discovered clay after translating parts of a book about the life of Manolo Hugué, a Catalan sculptor.

His approach ignited a curiosity in me: I couldn’t wait to start experimenting with sculpture myself!

I soon discovered that clay offered endless possibilities.

After years of practice I’m still amazed at our brains ability to absorb visually the things around us, and when we set it free,  transform those resonating images into a surprising three dimensional expression.

I have no preconceived vision of what an art piece should be or represent. I respond viscerally and physically to the clay in my hands while trying to capture the story in my head.

It is a fluid process, a connection that allows the imagery to flow through me into my sculptures and, hopefully, they then become the story tellers.

I have used earthenware for years and I am now exploring stoneware and porcelain, both of which open new and exciting possibilities in my art.
